MiDAS software is the worldwide standard for controlling, synchronizing, and automating digital high-speed and industrial video cameras. With thousands of installations worldwide, MiDAS software is used by researchers, production line engineers, scientists, doctors, and military range operators to convert their video cameras into easy-to-use motion capture systems.

Xcitex is the world's leading expert on synchronizing video and data. In 1998, we pioneered the first MiDAS -- Motion and integrated Data Acquisition System -- for high speed video cameras.

Why Video and Data together?

Data is like sound to a movie, filling in the gaps between frames of video. The highest speed cameras seldom record at rates beyond 20,000 fps, whereas data can be acquired as fast as 1 MHz, or 1 million data points per second.

While video provides a visual description of movement, data acquisition adds even more detailed quantitative information. Data sensors can measure what cameras can’t see – air pressure, temperature, voltage, etc. Capturing video and data together can yield great insight into the behavior of transient events.

MiDAS 4.0 Improved Video and Data Capture - Video, Data or Video/Data

Waveform Per FrameTM Technology

Xcitex engineers invented the heralded Waveform per Frame technology used in MiDAS 4.0. This technology controls both the DAQ system and the camera from a single master clock, accurately acquiring and synchronizing multiple data points per video frame. Compare this with other systems that have two separate clocks that are arbitrarily synchronized around a triggering event. Waveform per Frame technology has been benchmarked against all other systems with only high praise.
